Edward's philosophy

The series, of Second World War images evolved from an original interest in this poignant era of our history. There are many events throughout the country that specialise in maintaining this era with re-enactments. The participants take extreme care in ensuring that all material is true to the era along with the vehicles and other items. He was keen to try and exclude any modern items thus ensuring that as far as possible things were dated to this period. Originally traditionally made prints were produced utilising a matt-based paper that was then tinted (in cold tea!) to produce an older feel. Once these were made, although the panel was cohesive, it still didn’t have that feeling he was looking for. He proceeded to experiment with other papers to try and find the right feeling, but without success. It was then that he decided that he should try the digital option, and it was here that he found the key. To produce images that gave the viewer the feeling of what it was like to be there, and more importantly, to those who were they’re being able to relive the experience. To do this he has manipulated numerous negatives and created a series of montages, which create this feeling but also bring the images into the 21st century.
