Arena Welcomes Four New Members In 2007

Article published 10/12/2007 by Arena

Arena is always looking for talented photographers to join its ranks. This year we have been very fortunate to have four outstanding artists join the group.

First to join the group was Dave Mason. Working digitally in colour, his work is Street photography for the 21st Century. At present he is mainly working on two main portfolios based around the Urban Landscape and Coastal Britain, documenting the decline of its holiday resorts. Dave’s work has been widely published and exhibited, and he enjoys presenting his work at lectures. As well as Arena, he is also a member of Mirage and the London Independent Photographers.

Carol Hicks originally trained as a fine art painter, but concentrated her artistic talents on sensuous floral photography. Her complex images suggest feminine as well as floral forms. For many of her images she paints complementary backgrounds to enhance the forms and emotions that she is portraying.

Although regarding herself primarily as a mixed media artist, Kirsten Cooke is a professional photgrapher, teaches Photography at Yeovil College and has recently completed an MA in Photography and Fine Art. Her work is an eclectic mix of portraits, places, and yes, mixed media.

Our newest member is Colin Summers. A documentary photographer, he has travelled extensively throughout Asia, covering a range of subjects from the opium harvest in Laos, landmines in Cambodia and the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia. His photographs from Banda Aceh were recently featured in the journal Ag.

We are very pleased to welcome all four to Arena, and are looking forward to seeing new work from our latest members.
